Creating chart from Report item [message #837014] Thu, 05 April 2012 02:58 Go to next message

Hi,

this is the first time for me to create charts.
I undertood how to create charts from a data set.
Now I'm trying to create a (bar-)chart from a report item (a grid).
Every time a press the finish button a BIRT error occurs:
"The chart has not yet been bound to a Data Set or Data Cube".

Is there a tutorial available for such tasks?

Best wishes
Christoph

Charts have to have access to data. Is the grid bound to a data set?
There is an option to bind the chart to some other report item that is
data aware on the second tab of the chart wizard. Look for the "Use
Data from" radial button.

Hi Jason,
thanks for your reply.

My problem is like the following:

My grid contains data which is calculated on runtime using previuously in the report fetched java script data. In the binding tab of the grid there is for each data cell in the grid a seperate row with a name an so on...

Until now there was no need to bound the grid to a data set, but for testing I created a "dummy" binding to an arbitrary data set.
Then I was able to plot one of grid element.

I think that to plot all the grid elements in a chart I have to create a row of the differnt grid data elements?!
Can I somehow do this?

Greetings
Christoph
