Why not?
Builds are done for being used...
3.0M9 has some interesting capabilities. And I use eclipse to code in C++,
so if I want to use 3.0M9 I must use CDT 2.0M8...

Well, I have been looking at it carefully, and I'm not able to find any
link for this org.apache.xerces plugin.

Well, download pages say that you need 2.0M8 for 3.0M8... I have found no
information for running 2.0M8 in 3.0M9

Sorry, I meant why you don't use the latest CDT 2.0 _builds_. They are
working with the latest Eclipse-3.0M9. You can either use the Update
Manager, or download them from the same update-site as Update Manager
would use.
http://update.eclipse.org/tools/cdt/updates/builds/2.0/
CDT2.0M8 is not working with Eclipse3.0M9 since there is, once again, an
API-change in Eclipse itself. (Still remember, that M7/8/9 is still no
real _release_. Its just a milestone.)

You need to install the daily builds up to the end of this week, if you
want to stay "cutting edge". CDT Team is not the same team as
Eclipse-Platform/JDT/PDE team. They have to catch up on API changes of
the Platform guys as the JDT-team does or EMF-team or...
Btw., org.apache.xerces is dropped and not needed anymore.

Thats what I meant. It clearly states that CDT2.0M7 is for Eclipse 3.0M7
and CDT2.0M8 is for Eclipse3.0M8. (And as the Eclipse-Plans/Roadmap have
been showing API changes, I would not rely on a working CDT2.0M8 on the
new Eclipse3.0M9).

CDT2.0M7 does not even work with Eclipse 3.0M8, though why do you think
it would be working with M9?
Solution: Wait until an CDT2.0M9 Release comes out by the end of this
week or next week maybe, or use one of the daily builds (build from CVS
HEAD-branch, so be careful!). I use the one with the timestamp 20040521,
its the last one working on my system here.
Don't mess with the xerces, its taken out of Eclipse3.0M9 because
functionality is now contained within Java itself.
