I gave birt 2.0 M2 a testrun and wanted to comment on it.
First of all, excellent tool, you did a wonderful job.
I did a report on an existing db table and it took me almost no time
to get it up and running.
But there are some issues, which I wanted to comment on.
a) I gave the tool a stress test, it seemed to stressed out on a pdf
report with around 1500 pages, it simply collabsed on that load, by
giving internal errors. (probably caused by an out of memory exception)
Now this is a rather common usescase on address and other data to pump
out reports that big, so there is no way to use that now unless you can
split the data into smaller entities.
b) There seems to be some kind of line break issue on long strings
within a report table.
I had one of those cases, with a session string which was pumped into
the report, and then the report was exported to pdf, the resulting pdf
had the strings in the last colum and once there was a column overflow
there was no forced break but the string was overlapping the first
column within the same line.
c) There seems currently to be no way to export CSV data and also
no way to generate static reports on the fly which then can be
downloaded later.
But besides those issues I really liked what I saw, I will definitely
use it once I have the next case for it.
