most developers don't need an agent as shouldn't the "integrated agent", or
the "direct connection" be all thats needed for profiling a runtime
instance?

Hi John,
Yes, the Integrated Agent Controller is sufficient for all local use
cases (e.g. logging, profiling, test execution, etc.). This is covered in
our product documentation:
http://help.eclipse.org/help32/topic/org.eclipse.tptp.platfo rm.agentcontroller.doc.user/concepts/ac/c_ac_ovr.html
Specific to this problem on Vista, I was under the impression that
Andreas was using the Agent Controller. However, I would suggest following
the analogous work-around for the Integrated Agent Controller:
http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/releasenotes/rele asenotes4_3_0.html#3_AC_19
Also, whenever there is an issue with the Integrated Agent Controller,
we like to verify the symptoms by running the same scenario using the Agent
Controller.
