What's the difference between Virgo Tomcat and Virgo Jetty [message #805539] Thu, 23 February 2012 17:00 Go to next message

Hi,

We are trying to choose a development platform from Virgo Tomcat and Virgo Jetty. We tried to create several samples(some osgi bundles) as well as some other web applications and deployed on both of them but couldn't find any big differences(only that Virgo Jetty doesn't seem to support non WAB or osgi compatible Wars, and Virgo Jetty supports websockets). So I really need some helpful comments on What's the difference between Virgo Tomcat and Virgo Jetty. Typically something like what's the advantage for one over the other, what aspects one supports better than the other etc.

thanks,

Climber

Hi,

This is a good question, we have created a FAQ to provide a general answer but in short, Virgo Tomcat is more mature and better supported as there is some overlap between the Virgo and Gemini Web committers. Gemini Web is the project that wraps Tomcat in to an OSGi web container.

See, http://wiki.eclipse.org/Virgo/FAQ#What.27s_the_difference_between_Virgo_Tomcat_Server_and_Virgo_Jetty_Server
