Cannot open visual editor [message #96471] Thu, 07 July 2005 13:13 Go to next message

Hi,

since I upgraded to Eclipse 3.1, I can't open any visual parts of my
workspace (brought forth from Eclipse 3.02), I get errors saying "Create
Remote VM for Visual Editor for Java".

I did install all updates/patches/plugins to my Eclipse 3.1 environment.

How can I solve this?

Thanks,

Norm

Make sure to install the latest Integration Build http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/downloads/index.php, and -clean
start.

Just did that, and I get the same problem. The exact error message is as
follows:

An internal error occurred during: "Create Remote VM for Visual Editor for
Java".
java.lang.IllegalAccessError: tried to access method
org.eclipse.pde.internal.core.WorkspaceModelManager.getWorks pacePluginModel(Lorg/eclipse/core/resources/IProject;)Lorg/e clipse/pde/core/plugin/IPluginModelBase;

Using Help>About Eclipse>Plugin details, could you please list the
plugin versions for org.eclipse.emf, org.eclipse.core.runtime,
org.eclipse.jem.*. It looks like there are inconsistent levels of plugins.
Regards,
Sri.

I had a similar problem (with VE 1.1 that is), and it was to do with my GEF.
I had installed the latest stable release, but needed an even more recent
build (i've got I20050628), then it worked. It may not be exactly the same
problem though...

Sorry, I have completely removed that Eclipse 3.1 installation and reverted
to 3.02.

But it should be easy enough to reproduce (I had the problem on the two
machines where I tried it): install a fresh copy of 3.1, and install all
updates/plugins available, repeatedly until no updates are available.

Well, 3.1 does not work with VE 1.0.x. It will give errors. That's why
we asked exactly what versions were installed. There have been many
cases of someone installing all updates but not realizing they weren't
getting the right updates.
