how to save all project specific info of eclipse [message #94815] Wed, 16 July 2003 09:56 Go to next message

hallo,

some project specific help files store eclipse so far from the project
file.
For example the history information in:

\eclipse\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resou rces\.history\.index....

the bookmark info in:

eclipse\workspace\.metadata\.plugins\org.eclipse.core.resour ces\.projects\my_project\.markers.snap

etc. etc. etc.

So it is difficult to find all project relevant information and nearly
immpossible to transfer a project with all eclipse informations like
bookmarks history, task, etc.
It is easy to copy my source files of a project to another location and
continue my work with my project, but all comfort functions are not part
of the project and are hidden.

Is there a way for automatic collection and re-distribution of these
information?

Why should not store these info in the project folder like
/project_xy/.metadata/... ?

No. You can copy your entire workspace to another location, but there
is no way to copy the slices of the workspace that pertain to a single
project to another workspace. The critical information about the
project is stored in the content area (.project and .classpath files).
There is no way to transfer the rest.

This question have been asked a long time ago, but I don't think there is a solution for it.

I have couple of projects that I share across different workspace, and I share with colleagues, and I can't find a way to keep the Tasks and Bookmarks of the same project in sync across different workspaces and different users.

Any clues if this is possible?

Thanks in advance.
