DB2 Problem [message #94667] Mon, 28 November 2005 09:33 Go to next message

Hi, I've just installed BIRT 1.0.1, and I can connect to the sample =

database and create the sample reports without any problems. However, I =
=

cannot create a JDBC connection to DB2. In the Data Sources wizard, I've=
=

added in the db2java.zip file to the list of JAR files and the drivers =

appear in the list of drivers, but not all of them appear when I try to =
=

create the Data Source, the app driver is missing, but the net driver is=
=

present. When I do try the net driver, Eclipse freezes up and I have to =
=

kill the eclipse process and restart it.
Has anyone had similar problems and know how to solve it?

I've done any number of searches to try and find a solution, but no luck=

Hi Joe;
I'd encourage you to use the DB2 type 4 driver (db2cc.jar - don't forget
the license file too). We have had no issues with setup/config.

I have had a number of issues with db2java.zip, but got around most of
them by renaming the db2java.zip file to db2java.jar. This seems to make
alot of apps (including BIRT and Tomcat) much happier.

Pete, does db2cc.jar require any processes to be running on the DB2
server like the .Net driver does?

Hi Joe;
There should be no requiremetn for additional processes or services on the
server. You WILL need to be sure to also make the license file available
in the classpath. If your target is DB2 for Linux/Unix/Windoze, the
license file is db2jcc_license_cu.jar. For zSeries or iSeries, there are
different ones...

All we did was identify those 2 files using the BIRT driver manager and we
were good to go.

I have been attempting to follow the suggestions in this thread to
establish DB2 jdbc connection. I start the "new data source" dialog,
choosing "jdbc data source" then pressing <Next>, bringing up the jdbc
class and url panel. I click on the Manage Drivers button, then delete
both db2java.zip and db2jcc.jar. Strangely enough, the Drivers tab never
changes. The same drivers appear. And the jar and zip files re-appear if
I return to the new datasource panel and click on the Manage Drivers
button. Any ideas?

I am answering my own post. I copied the sole jar file to the BIRT jdbc
driver folder in eclipse. Then I restarted eclipse. Even though I see
all the other drivers from the db2java.zip file -- which no longer is
linked to the BIRT plugin, the type 4 driver now works. The dataset
preview displays the sql results. The simple, tabular report, however,
does not show the results. The dataset is bound to the report table. Is
there a log file I can check?
