Web Services support [message #93739] Thu, 21 April 2005 06:00 Go to next message

Hi all; does web tools support message style web service? I must develop
several Web Services and several EJBs and now we are choosing the best
eclipse plugin; we are waiting for web tools M4 but we need to know some its
features.
Thanks

I assume by "message style" you mean Remote Procedure Call (RPC). The WTP
Web services tools support both Document and RPC Web services. The WTP Web
service tools currently make use of Axis 1.1 so it's probably a good
assumption that the WTP Web service tools support whatever you can do with
Axis 1.1 (although someone working on these tools is in a better position
to state whether this is true).

The current (M3 and M4) WTP Web service tools include support for Apache Axis
1.1. In Axis, the phrase "message-style" refers to non-standard (as in
non-JAXRPC) features of the Axis programming model for getting direct access
to fragments of the SOAP request and response messages. It does not refer to
RPC/Encoded, RPC/Literal or Doc/Literal. There is no option in the user
interface to allow you to specify the "message" style in the generated WSDD
file. If you would like an option for this in the tools, please feel free to
open an enhancement request [1].

The tools do support choosing RPC/Encoded, RPC/Literal or Doc/Literal (if one
of the latter two are what you meant by "message style"), however, Apache Axis
1.1's support for the Literal use is fairly week. One of our items for M5 is
to plug in Apache Axis 1.2, it's claim to fame being much better support for
JAX-RPC 1.1 and WS-I BP 1.0 (thus Doc/Literal).

Hope that helps.
