Problem with agent controllers using TPTP under Vista [message #93510] Wed, 14 March 2007 18:32 Go to next message

I've installed the latest Eclipse (Version: 3.2.2
Build id: M20070212-1330) and TPTP (all components are 4.1.1 or later).
If I go into preferences->profiling....->hosts and try to do "Test
Connection" for the Local Direct Connection I get:

"The Remote Agent Controller(RAC) is currently running. You need to stop
the Remote Agent Controller before activating the Local Direct
Connection, or select localhost instead of Local Direct Connection."

If I do "Test Connection" for localhost:10002 (the only other host) I get:

"Connection failed on host localhost.
Reason:
IWAT0284E The agent controller is not available on host localhost."
(and so on)

Also, if I go into the agent controller preferences, there is only the
integrated agent controller and everything on the settings for it is
greyed out.

I haven't installed the RAC as far as I am aware (I even searched my
whole machine for ACServer.exe just to make sure).

I get the same behaviour with Windows firewall turned off.
I get the same behaviour with Eclipse set to "Run as administrator" or not.
The user I run Eclipse as has administrator privileges on Vista.

Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it? I am pretty sure it's a
Vista problem as I was happily using TPTP on my XP box previously.

Cheers
Andy

A little extra information. Having read back through the newsgroup (this
seems to be a common symptom with various causes), I have gone back to
J2SE1.5.0_11 (I uninstalled 1.6 just to be sure). So, Eclipse is now
running in the 1.5.0_11 JRE and I've changed the settings for the IAC to
the same.

No change.

as sad as it is i'm fighting with the exact same problem since 2 days.

my specifications:

1. eclipse 3.2.1
- calissto installed TPDP
- 32 bit windowx vista (dual core centrino)

2. eclipse 3.2.1
- calissto installed TPDP
- 64bit gentoo linux on intel EMT64 (old xeons netburst technologie)

i run in the same message and have no idea what todo and would love to be
pointed in the right direction. I reinstalled eclipse several time, used
different user accounds, created several workspaces. Reinstalled the linux
box.

The error message i got:

"The Remote Agent Controller(RAC) is currently running. You need to stop
the Remote Agent Controller before activating the Local Direct
Connection, or select localhost instead of Local Direct Connection."

dear eclipse team please help us, we are sure you know a solution!

today I checked it with a 32 bit windows XP and the problem doesn't exist.

any ideas?

does the RAC server generate a pid file somewhere? And if yes where?

Hi Andy,

Samson Wai from the TPTP Platform Team has provide the following
response:

This seems to be related to the following Vista-specific bugs:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176074

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176744

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176745

The manifest file for the IAC fragment failed to load on some JDKs.

Also, make sure Eclipse is started as Administrator or otherwise IAC will
not be able to create shared memory.

Paul

Brilliant. Just did a software update and got the TPTP patches. Fixed
the problem straight away.

Cheers
