I'm running BIRT 1.0.1 reports in batch now (only in test, but I haven't
had any problems yet so it looks good). There's really nothing magic to it;
it's just like a foreground run except you have to know beforehand what
parameters you want to pass into the report. Is your problem that you need
the code to run the report, or do you not have a scheduler in your app? If
it's the latter problem, have you looked at Quartz; I'm not actually using
it myself (its a legacy system with a home-brew scheduler) but the buzz on
quarts is pretty good from what I can see.

Hi Patrick;
Thanks for the response. I'm all set on the code for running a report in
batch, but there is ALOT of potentially generic infrastructure for batch
report generation:
* Scheduling (though for this we could use our enterprise scheduler as you
suggest)
* Distribution (e.g. email)
* Metadata and API for managing report requests, parameter setting,
notification, etc

I'm trying to get a feel for what (if anything) along these lines is in
the long term plan for BIRT.
