In the article "Registering a Custom Data Collection Mechanism with TPTP's
Launch Configuration Framework" at eclipse.org, the analysis type is
associated with the data collector in the declaration of the collector in
plugin.xml. This reflects the declarations in
platform/org.eclipse.hyades.trace.ui/plugin.xml.
In simple words, analysis types are associated with data collectors while
declaring the data collectors. Does this mean that new analysis types
cannot to associated with existing data collectors without changing the
plugin manifest of the data collectors? If not, then how can new analysis
types be associated with existing data collectors without modifying the
plugin manifest of the data collectors?

You can associate an analysis type with an existing data collector by using
the following extension point:
org.eclipse.hyades.trace.ui.analysisTypesAssociation
