Validate Goes Bad w/No Changes [message #83629]

help!

i created a new project, based on a pre-existing PHP application directory.
the workspace is set to its own dir.
it validated clean.

then i deleted, and re-added the same app, and its build shows 100+ errors
and warnings..
but nothing was changed.

reinstalled eclipse. no help.
changed PHP version from 4 to 5. no help.
updated eclipse, no help.
deleted .project, .cache, .settings, and recreated project. no help

now getting 'java.lang.IllegalArgumentException' in eclipse.
