Generating build.xml's with the PDE vs. writing them manually [message #76468] |

Can anyone offer advice:
Our project team has developed several plugins. We started this work when
ant support within Eclipse was not so hot (~Eclipse 1.0 days), so we wrote
them manually and have continued to maintain them. Can someone speak to why
we might want to consider the automatic generation of build.xml files within
the PDE?
I have searched several of these news groups and found nothing. I have also
read Chapter 22 of the book "The Java Developer's Guide to Eclipse", and
find the material unclear, confusing, and offering no compelling reason for
using the generation feature within the PDE. Our team has been writing ant
scripts for several years and are quite comfortable with doing so. The
choice seems to boil down to manually maintaining the build.xml file vs. the
build.properties file. We know how to do the former, but not the latter.
Why would/should we choose to do so?
TIA,
