Profiling remote Tomcat and load testing? [message #75620]

Hello - Just getting started with TPTP and have several high level
questions...

1) I have a remote Tomcat app running on a Solaris box, is it possible
to deploy the solaris agent to that host and profile the webapp from my
local Windows workstation? Can I attach to a running instance of Tomcat
or do I need to have agent start it up? Any documents or examples of how
to set this up?

2) Is there any way to do load testing, i.e. can we replace JMeter with
TPTP? I see where you can loop tests but I don't see anything for test
concurrent user load.

1) Sure thing! This is what TPTP Profiling is all about.
You need to
1 Run a RAC (Remote Agent Controller) on the Solaris
machine
2 Start the JVM that hosts you Tomcat with a TPTP JVMPI
agent (typically the jvm option required is -XrunpiAgent:server=enabled)
Please not that the piAgent .so file must be within
the LD_LIBRARY_PATH

The workflow is as follows: First start the RAC. Then you start the
TPTP enabled Tomcat wich will connect to the RAC. Then you launch the
profiling from the Eclipse workbench (and pointing out the RAC on
the remote Solaris machine)

The online help topic Monitoring and Profiling applications
describes the required set-up well.

2) Sorry but no. I think that the JMeter functionallity would be a great
Eclipse TPTP feature. Perhaps a co-operation between Apache and Eclipse
Foundation?
