PDT 2.0 - Code Assist [message #75373] |

I'm using the integration build from yesterday (07072008), and when I
invoke code assist on a large project Eclipse freezes momentarily and my
file access spikes (I know this because I am using VPN and can obviously
see the connection get hit, from flatline to access back to flatline as
soon as eclipse unfreezes).
I had similar issues relating to slow PDT over VPN while using the stable
release and had hoped they might be solved in a more recent build, but was
obviously mistaken.
My real question is why PDT is accessing those files when all I do is Code
Assist. Shouldn't the build be caching that data somewhere in RAM or
within the project folder for easy and quick access later during Code
Assist? The Project Outline view seems to know all the information that
should be displayed, so why are we hitting up the disk again?
(I forgot to mention that the project folder itself resides on the local
disk, all VPN-stored folders are linked.)

I noticed a thread with a problem similar to mine where it was mentioned
to try the latest nightly, so I've tried with today's (July 09, 2008), and
there is no change. I'm still wondering why it's even accessing the files.
