In humble appology for not doing my homework I post the answer to my own
question.
The generic connector was split into a separate download from a new "extras"
update site which can be found at:
http://download.eclipse.org/tools/mylyn/update/extras

We realized that this move would be confusing, but decided that it was
important to do before the 2.0 release since making an update site split
after being packaged with the default Eclipse downloads would cause
orders of magnitude more confusion. Glad that the download page was
