Eclipse uses IE internally?? [message #72192] Wed, 01 June 2005 18:47 Go to next message

Hi group,

Did I see this right: when opening a website in Eclipse (both 3.0.2 and
latest 3.1), it opens a browser inside, but this is IE? I assume this
as it says "Add to Favorites", amongst others. I very much don't want
to use IE, and have Firefox 1.0.4 installed. Why doesn't Eclipse use my
default browser?

Is this a known 'bug'?

Thanks, H.

Ok, I've been able to change it to launch FF externally whenever I click
a html file (the first hit when I did a help search on 'browser',
actually :-$), but the internal browser nevertheless is very much
IE-like. If I click the "Add to Favorites..." option after right-click,
it even has a subfolder "Links", which is a very typical IE thing...

Hi,

From SWT 3.0, there is a Browser widget which implementation is platform
dependent. It uses IE rendering engine on Windows. I think Eclipse uses this
widget to show html pages internally.

See
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-swt-home/faq.html#browserplatforms
for more information (url may wrap).

Thanks. I hope they implement support for Firefox soon, both on Windows
and Linux. Should I enter this as a enhancement request in bugzilla?
