Please forgive me if this isn't the right place to ask this question. I've seen similar threads here so I think it is but I can't find the answer to my problem. I'm running Eclipse 3.6.1 on Fedora Core 14 64 bit. I'm trying to do a Help...Check for Updates but it fails every time with the message below. Any tips on what to do?

Cannot complete the install because of a conflicting dependency.
Software being installed: EMF - Eclipse Modeling Framework Core Runtime 2.6.1.v20100914-1218 (org.eclipse.emf.ecore.feature.group 2.6.1.v20100914-1218)
Software currently installed: Shared profile 1.0.0.1311205236213 (SharedProfile_PlatformProfile 1.0.0.1311205236213)
Only one of the following can be installed at once:
    EMF Change Model 2.5.0.v20100521-1846 (org.eclipse.emf.ecore.change 2.5.0.v20100521-1846)
    EMF Change Model 2.5.1.v20100907-1643 (org.eclipse.emf.ecore.change 2.5.1.v20100907-1643)
    EMF Change Model 2.5.0.R201006141136 (org.eclipse.emf.ecore.change 2.5.0.R201006141136)
  Cannot satisfy dependency:
    From: Shared profile 1.0.0.1311205236213 (SharedProfile_PlatformProfile 1.0.0.1311205236213)
    To: org.eclipse.emf.ecore.change [2.5.0.R201006141136]

Eric,

Do you know what From: Shared profile 1.0.0.1311205236213
(SharedProfile_PlatformProfile 1.0.0.1311205236213) is? It seems to
have some pretty strict dependencies on an older version of EMF (one
that targets Eclipse 3.5).

I'm not exactly sure. I've done some searching and it seems like it's always a Fedora issue. Maybe it's something Fedora adds when they package Eclipse?

Eric,

I've seen people suggest on the platform/newcomers newsgroups/forums
that it's always best to install directly from Eclipse rather than
picking up what's in a distro...

Okay, thanks. Perhaps this isn't the right forum to ask this but in that case is there something I need to do to "clean" my install other than uninstalling it from yum? Any directories or anything I should remove? Does anyone know if the Google Android Tools works with Indigo?

I see some chatter with similar problems as these that I should try and update as root. I'll give that a shot first.

Eric,

I think it's quite hard to clean up an install...

Hi,

It seems like you've got RPM-installed EMF and you're trying to overwrite that as a user. I think you should either uninstall the system-installed EMF (# yum remove eclipse-emf) or do as Eric/Ed suggest and use a release from http://download.eclipse.org.

If you have Fedora-specific questions, please direct them to the Fedora mailing lists.
