Enhanced css styling property: text-shadow in RAP [message #691650] Fri, 01 July 2011 23:09 Go to next message

Hello RAP community.

Unfortunately, the current RAP CSS styling does not supports text-shadow
property. With text-shadow, it is possible to create appealing UI that
reflects today's trends in UI design. Almost every modern rich Ajax
application (or desktop application, not least in MacOS / IOS or GNOME)
uses text-shadow to highlight lists, menus buttons or text titles.

This feature we wanted have in our RAP-based applications. So I've
adapted RAP 1.4 accordingly: as result, text-shadow for many RAP widgets
is available now (see screenshots).

Now I would like to pass my changes; or, if it is possible to commit it
to RAP-source code repository. How can I do that?

Best regards,

Nikolai

Hi Nikolai,

not only the text shadows, your entire theme looks amazing!

Text shadows are not supported by every browser, but since their
presence or absence does not change the application's layout, I think
it's safe to enable them in RAP.

To contribute your changes, you should open an enhancement request in
our bugzilla and attach a patch against CVS HEAD. (To commit to an
Eclipse project directly, you have to become a committer. To become a
committer, you have to be a contributor first.)

If you like to contribute your theme too, I guess this would also be
appreciated ;-)

Best regards, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the praise!

I'll prepare the patch this week and and will attach it in Bugzilla.

Our basic dark theme (we use a lot of WidgetUtil.CUSTOM_WIDGET's) I can
pass of course. But in the same Issue or an another?

Many thanks and best regards,

Nikolai

Forgot to say: in the browsers (IE6-8), which do not support
text-shadow, should simply no shadow displayed. But thanks for the hint,
I'll prove it.

Best regards,

Nikolai

Thanks in advance.

It's a different issue so it should go into a bug of its own.

Thanks, Ralf

Hi Ralf,

sorry, with some delay I've now created this Issue: 351726.

The patch is based on the current CVS state from today (with the relocated rwt.q07-plugin)

Best regards,

Nikolai

Thanks a lot, Nikolai,

right now, we're preparing support for text shadows. The theme patch is
fine. We'll get back to it later when we work on the themes.

Thanks, Ralf
