I am using RAP together with CDO as server model framework. RAP can be deployed as a web archive in a webserver, what about CDO? What is the best way to deploy CDO server? Is there any cloud service that allows to run easily a RAP or CDO application (OSGI)? I am looking for the best practice.

Hi Stefan,

You can package a CDO Server in a war layout very similar to the one used by RAP. There's one small change needed to the RAP framework's launcher in order to coerce it to start the CDO Server application. I'm still testing it to determine if there are side effects to the launcher modification, but so far, so good. I'm working on a howto document for the war configuration - hopefully to get it on the CDO wiki soon.

Alternately, you can export the CDO product in a manner similar to an RCP application and launch it when the server starts up.

The advantage to the war packaging is that it will run in any application server since it doesn't require a platform specific launcher. Also, it should work fine in a cloud environment.

Hi Stefan,

Unfortunately I have no clue what a "cloud service" is and how it would be related to CDO's deployment. On the other hand I know of no CDO implied restrictions regarding deployments whatsoever. CDO can run entirely standalone, in web containers (I only have some Jetty experience), in OSGi containers, etc., so I'd expect no major difficulties with your favourite JRE5 based environment.
