[CDO] HibernateStore - What is the recommended version for getting started? [message #666796] Fri, 22 April 2011 15:41 Go to next message

I would like to get started with CDO and the Hibernate Store.

1) What is the recommended combination/version of software to use for this?

I am aware of the documentation at
http://wiki.eclipse.org/CDO/Hibernate_Store/Quick_Start

So the recommended versions that I deduced are
Eclipse 3.6
EMF 2.6
Teneo 1.12
Hibernate 3.3.2
CDO 3.0
Is that correct?

Would it be better to go for CDO 4.0 already? Is that stable enough
for getting started?

2) Which examples are recommended for CDO 3.0? The quickstart guide
recommends to use the 3.0_GA but there are multiple tags/branches that
look like they could fit. For instance,
http://dev.eclipse.org/svnroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf.cdo/ tags/3.0
http://dev.eclipse.org/svnroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf.cdo/ tags/3.0-SR1
http://dev.eclipse.org/svnroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf.cdo/ tags/3.0-SR2-RC4
http://dev.eclipse.org/svnroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf.cdo/ branches/R3_0_maintenance

Thanks,
Goetz

Hi Goetz,
I am the maintainer of the CDO hibernate store. The hibernate store worked fine for CDO 3.0 afaics but I am not sure
about CDO 4.0. The HibernateStore has not changed much for CDO 4.0, but I will start a customer project with CDO 4.0 and
the hibernate store and will then spend time on it. I will start with this customer project in about 1 week, and then
continuously work with both CDO 4.0 and the hibernate store.

So if your project is in parallel with mine then the best bet is CDO 4.0. Although Eike can better comment if one should
use CDO 4.0 core already... (which I guess is okay as indigo is not that far away).

For CDO 4.0 I will also upgrade the hibernate store to the latest hibernate releases.

Sounds good.

I'd be happy to try using that and provide some feedback.

How will I get to know when you made some progress? Do you intend to
announce it in the EMF newsgroup or on some web page, for instance,
http://wiki.eclipse.org/CDO_Hibernate_Store_Configuration_an d_Setup
?

Bugzilla is the best we can offer to track issues, their status and their progress. Please cc yourself to those bugzillas that you're interested in or submit new ones if needed.

Cheers

Hi Goetz,

Given that CDO 4.0 is soon to be released, I'd recommend to start new projects with CDO 4.0 already. It will be final by mid of June.

Cheers
/Eike
