As an active developer, I use Subversion, the modeling tools (including papyrus), CDT, python and PHP, Mylyn and Buckminster -along with XML tools. Unfortunately, I'm now to the point that Update Manager won't work for me - lots of updates and everyone of them depends on something that conflicts with something else or I'm only allowed one version of 4 that are listed.

I know I can create multiple 'installs' of the various packages but I *REALLY* like the advantages of an integrated environment. Is there any way I can create a list of which projects can be installed together and what versions of which modules should be used?

Dick,

Which repo are you getting them from. Things in a repo like Helios
should generally all be compatible. It's finding other repos with
things compatible with Helios that might be a problem. Unfortunately I
don't think there's a central place to get an answer for that...

About 6 months ago I nuked my eclipse directory and downloaded the Helios Eclipse Modeling Tools - because it was the biggest. 8:D

Then I systematically installed various and sundry projects (pydev, papyrus, etc.) as well as "other" Helios individual projects like CDT until I had a fully functional, up-to-date install.

I should have left good enough alone. After several updates (and additions of more projects) I started getting conflicts. I'd go through one item at a time and try the update. If it worked, fine. If not, I skipped it. (You can't tell me software can't be made to "rot".) %>[

I tried resolving the current conflicts item-by-item recently but new items kept appearing faster than I could keep up. Now I think the best way would be to nuke the existing install and start over (as in the first two paragraphs).

I made this post as a Hail Mary hoping there was some magic utility that would clean up my install and I had just missed it in the newsgroups. Oh well.

Dick,

No, it's easy to get consistent stuff from Helios, because it's a repo
designed to be consistent, but when you "shop" for things beyond this,
it just gets messy... :-(

One thing that can help is in the Install New Software window, un-check
the option "Contact all update sites during install..." That will force
Eclipse to only get things from the repository that you've selected.
