Building fails because of "prerequisite" projects [message #65916] Wed, 18 May 2005 12:24
Eclipse UserFriend
Hey all,

I have a workspace with a large number of projects, some of which depend on
others in the workspace. It seems like nearly every time I update one of them
via CVS and rebuild them I get a cascade of errors appearing in the Package
Explorer. If I look at the Problems window, I see an error message like:

The project cannot be built until its prerequisite XXX is built. Cleaning
and building all projects is recommended.

As it suggests, I try cleaning and building everything, but I wind up in the
same place. I try refreshing, cleaning, and then building the XXX package that
it is talking about, to no avail. I even try to refresh, clean, build the
"Resource" that the error message states as depending on XXX. No dice.

Usually, I manage to get things working by doing a series of refreshes and
cleans and fiddling with the project properties. Eventually I come across the
project that is causing the problem, but this takes a long time -- sometimes
days.

So, what is it that Eclipse is looking for that it isn't finding?

Thanks.

Dave
