Hi, I've searched through the internet for how to fix this problem but haven't gotten anything yet, so any help will be highly appreciated.
I've been using the latest version of Eclipse+Tomcat 7 in order to learn how to program servlets. As a college project, I need to do the website for an online music store, so I need to work with databases too (for clients, products, etc).
I've been trying to get MySQL with Eclipse, so I downloaded the J/Connector (last version) from the MySQL website and installed the Data Tools Plataform for Eclipse. I also downloaded some sample databases.
Then, I started Eclipse and tried to add a database to my workspace. After selecting the MySQL JDBC Driver that I downloaded, and locating one of the sample databases into my workspace folder, I try to connect to the DB from Eclipse. However, when I try to test connectivity it says "Ping failed. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server."
I would appreciate any help from anybody who's done this before or has any idea of how to fix it. Also, even though I'm trying to use MySQL (because it's the one I used a couple years ago in another college class), I am open to any other possibility that allows me to work with databases from Eclipse in the simplest way.
Thanks.

I can offer you a number of short articles on all of these subjects.
Look under especially "Eclipse-oriented", but also other menus/headings
at http://www.javahotchocolate.com/
Hope this helps.
