nebula widget dependencies.. [message #5815] Mon, 26 June 2006 16:33 Go to next message

Will nebula have a standard for dependencies or is this going to be a
per widget configuration? I assume most of them will rely on some
version of SWT, is there a target SWT build?

Thanks,

Eric

Thats a good question and I don't have the whole answer right now.
Currently you can expect Nebula to build upon the current SWT
development version (which at this point would be 3.3). When Nebula
grows we will have to re-evaluate.

I know, that is not only in the scope of Nebula, but how about features
underneath and Nebula itself as a Feature (or Bundle, or whatever it may
be called in future Eclipse versions ?;-)

And especially in regards to components dealing with their deployment in
RCP environments is also a good point.

I guess only very few major solutions (like BEA's or IBM's workbenches
based on Eclipse) have fully utilised something like shared configurations
yet?

However, if more solutions based on RCP are going to come up, something
like SHARING libraries such as Nebula (and RCP itself) are more and more
interesting.

Else people would have to maintain multiple copies of the same Eclipse
platform over and over again...

Actually, this seems more like a topic for future Callisto-like initiatives
(probably going to post it there, too)
