Hi all,
The Papyrus plug-in for UML, has no validation feature at all. I've just noticed the RCP version has a bit of that : in Papyrus RCP, you can right-click on the model outline view, and get a "Validate Model" menu entry. Not a validation during edition, but that is still better than no validation at all.
It is not there with the plug-in version of Papyrus ? What makes it possible with the RCP version (which I will not use because it come with other problems) and not with the plug-in version ?
I feel an UML editor is useless without validation. I wanted to access Papyrus sources to see if there is a way to add this capability to Papyrus but I could not access the sources, because the SVN repository seems broken (see http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=msg&th=199504 about that topic).
That is not easy to get a good UML editor : ArgoUML is validating editor, but does not know at all about UML-DI (which is the standard for diagrams), TopCased is validating and know UML-DI, but has failures at runtime and when importing XMI, Papyrus can save XMI and UML-DI (while does cannot populate a diagram from these), but is not validating. No need to talk about all the other editors, which are just picture-drawing applications (no one should call these "UML editor")
There is always something wrong 
P.S. SVG export could also be a requirement, however, validation is really the first requirement of all (with support for standards, XMI and UML-DI, for interoperability).
