[CDO] Does CDO fit in our scenario? [message #619092] Fri, 30 May 2008 06:21

Hi,

I just made my first steps with CDO and now I am asking myself if it
fits in our current development scenario or not. Maybe a more
experienced CDO user can provide some feedback? The scenario is as
follows..

We already developed an Eclipes/EMF based application, whose main
purpose is to let the user capture some data, apply some processing
and generate a report. Currently, we use the generated EMF Editors to
let the user capture data (the input is modeled with EMF), and we use
BiRT to generate the reports (the output is also modeled with EMF).
Beside that, we plan to use CDO to enable multiple users capturing
data at the same time in the future, but this is not our priority
right now.
Furthermore, we now need to develop a Web based application in the
very same context. Due to some constraints, we cannot integrate it
with our Eclipse/EMF based application right now, but we plan to do
this in the near future. This Webapplication has a normal GUI and
stores data in a MySQL database.

Now I wonder if it is possible (and especially if it makes sense) to
use CDO to generate the database based on the already existing EMF
models? If the Webapplication stores data in this database, could we
then use CDO to "export" this data into a normal EMF resource like we
have it in our Eclipse/EMF based application?

Many thanks for your help!

Best,
Marc
