If I am in the Package Explorer in Eclipse (Version: 3.1.0, Build id:
I20050401-1645), and I start typing, a textfield opens at the
lower-right corner of the window and the text that I type appears in
this box. When I hit return, nothing happens except that the textfield
disappears.
What is the function of this textfield?
Thanks, Ralph

Ralph, I assume you are using the GTK version of eclipse. GTK has
generic search on lists and trees that you can invoke by pressing Ctrl+F
or simply by typing away.
This feature is not supported by eclipse, however, so pressing Return
after entering a search expression does not do anything.
