How do I upgrade from 2.0.2 to 2.1 M4? [message #589437]

How can I upgrade from Eclipse 2.0.2 to 2.1 M4? Is it enough just to unzip
the corresponding files into the eclipse directory? I would like to preserve
my settings, but as I understand it, those are in the .metadata subdirectory
under the workspace directory and therefore should not be affected by the
upgrade, is that right?
