Hello,
I would like to suggest to add new templates/examples in the RAP project
creation wizard, ie templates that mimic WEB UI applications and not only
Eclipse-like applications.
The development wave is actually today to merge applications developped
for the web and applications developped for desktop (see Appollo/AIR,
Silverlight, Google gadgets, Yahoo widgets, ...); so the border is less
and less visible.
Moreover people are used to use applications in WEB UI lookd an feel...
Consequently we can predict that they will also want to have applications
developped with RAP with a WEB UI look and feel.
So one means to help developpers to create application in this fashion is
to propose to them some typical WEB UI templates in the project creation
wizard like :
* header, footer (like tiles), center part with tab panes
* header, menu under header, left part, center part, footer
* header, menu, left, center, right, footer
* and so on...
with a WEB look and not an eclipse look (as you did with the eclipse
discovery demo)...
It could be still better if the community could "easily" add new templates
to this wizard by providing a xml configuration file or such a thing.
regards
Xavier

Xavier,

This is a good idea. I agree that we will start seeing RCP apps that
look and feel more like webapps (let's say ajax apps) in the near future.

Do you have a template that you would like to contribute?

We will look into your configuration file proposal.

Re-hello,
I'm not sure to be efficient in designing templates in RAP, but typically
a kind of template we could have could be the Eclipse one
( http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/article.php?id=1528&gr oup=eclipse.technology.rap#1528)
There are a good panel of typical ajapps :
* a header with shortcuts and legal mentions
* a menu
* a left part with sub-menus
* a center part with editor
* a right part with sub-views
* a footer with shortcuts too

I think that in the future we could have many kind of templates for
different kind of applications, eg :
* CMS oriented : the wizard generates a basic CMS system with different
pluggins like RSS, Wiki, calendar, ...
* Blog oriented
* and so on...

regards
Xavier
