On behalf of the DTP PMC, I am happy to announce the DTP milestone 2 (M2)
build is now available on our download site. This build runs on Eclipse
3.2M4 with EMF 2.2.0M4 stand-alone, and Eclipse 3.1 with EMF 2.1.x using
the additional “compatibility pack,” also available on our download site.
In addition to being synchronized with the Callisto project, M2 adds much
new functionality, including:

> An exemplary Apache Derby content provider for the Data Source Explorer
(DSE). You can now connect to and inspect an Apache Derby database.
Instructions for doing so can be found at
http://www.eclipse.org/datatools/project_connectivity/connec tivity_doc/Connect%20to%20Derby%20using%20DTP%20M2.htm

> SQL Query and SQL XML Query Model: Newly open-sourced and donated to Eclipse
DTP by IBM, this model enables components to deal with query instances. UML
documentation can be found on the DTP Connectivity site
http://www.eclipse.org/datatools/project_connectivity/index. html

> The first iteration of integration between ODA and the Connection Profile
frameworks. It also provides an exemplary ODA custom designer plug-in that
implements the Connection Profile extension point. Using the DSE, one can now
browse any defined ODA connection profile types, among other profile
categories. From there, one can bring up the custom UI page(s) of an ODA
driver to create and edit profiles for defining the connection properties of
an ODA driver. For more info on additional ODA Connection Profile integration
points in upcoming iterations, see the Bugzilla entry:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=121885

> A number of frameworks and tools for initial community review in SQL
Development Tools: SQL editor framework and SQL editor, Results view
framework, and SQL Debugger framework. These initial code contributions from
the SQL Development Tools team represent a very early state, and we hope that
community feedback, especially of the frameworks, will provide valuable
guidance going forward into DTP M3 and M4 next year.

As always, the DTP committers welcome feedback from the community, and we
look forward to completing and stabilizing this code base toward our 0.7
release, currently targeted at the week before EclipseCon 2006.

I’d like to take a moment to thank all the DTP committers for the hard
work that has gone into meeting this milestone date.

Regards,
John Graham
