Eclipse Architecture Articles Needed [message #564633] Wed, 13 July 2005 21:01

The Eclipse Roadmap and Architecture Plan have pretty slides for
managers. No criticism intended, they are what they are. But there is a
real need for a solid technical description of the Eclipse Architecture
with a capital 'A'. Even though it necessarily would describe internal
workings that are subject to change.

It is possible, with about six clicks, to drill down, e.g., to the
Platform UI dev resources page (the Architecture Plan is just a detour)
and, should one chance to click on the right link, get some meat. Sadly,
this is not true of all projects, and even if the information is
available, there is no uniform way to find it.

I propose an Eclipse Architecture page along the lines of the current
articles page, possibly organized by project/sub-project, which pulls
together all architectural descriptions. For an example of content, see:

http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/plat form-ui-home/workbench_design/Inside%20the%20workbench.html

Maybe they can't all be that good, but it would be a worthy model.
