Apparently this problem has been reported earlier for GMF
(https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=315028)

This problem still seems to exists in Helios, contrary to the bug report.

Should somebody still encounter this issue, I found out that this was
presumably caused by the configuration of my machine (Ubuntu). I had the
font resolution (System > Preference > Appearance > Fonts > Details) set
to a lower value (84 dpi) than the display resolution
($ xdpyinfo | grep resolution -> 96 dpi). Setting the font resolution
equal to the display resolution solved the problem.
