Have you seen this link?

This covers building 2.5 but is not much different for 2.6 . Once you
have connected to cvs open the source under head and select all the
projects. Right click on them and choose check out as.(Wait, wait,
wait). Hit the next button on the check out as dialog twice. Click the
refresh tags button and the tag (BIRT_2_6_0_Release_201006171315) should
show up in the list. Select it and click finish.

We will get the FAQ updated soon to reflect 2.6.
