XForms Support [message #54319] Tue, 23 November 2004 14:53 Go to next message

Hi,

Can someone tell me if there are any plans to support an xforms designer in
the web tools project?

If there are plans, please point me to any doc that I probably missed.

Cheers,
-Lyndon-

No there are no current plans for this ... but of course this project is
open for proposals and contributions. I'd be interested in understanding
what 'end goal' you'd like to achieve with this support. Perhaps this is
just a small subset of XForms?

I do know you can generate an XForms model editor from the W3C schema
using EMF. The result is not comparable to XForm IDE's like XFormation
but it gives an interesting view into existing XForms documents and
fragments and can be used to create new XForms. You don't get any
XForms player capability out of the deal and I wouldn't call it a form
designer but it is a running start in approximately the right direction.

One text editor for XForms could be built while leveraging WTP components:
- a tabbed panel with one tab including the XML editor (or an extension of
it !?), and inside the other tab, a firefox integration for visualization.
- code snippet.

As said above, there are no current plans for XForms support... but of
course this project is open for proposals and contributions.
