I downloaded Birt with Eclipse Galileo and tried to create a report, and I used a different instance of Eclipse Galileo and installed Birt using Eclipse Update, and I get the same result.

I created a Data Source and a Data Set. I am able to view my Data when I create the Data Set so I don't think that is the problem. (I also tried the default database included with Birt and that didn't work either) I add a simple table and add a column from my dataset to that table, and when I select preview, I get this error, "A runtime Error has occurred on Line 1897". It then goes to a Class is undefined error on Line 15. It also has an error on line 495 that says, "birtParameterDialog" is null or not an object.

When I select Run Report, the browser that popups says it is unable to display the webpage.

So what is going on here? I am using Eclipse Galileo Java EE IDE for Web Developers. My installed JRE is jre.1.6.0_05. I also have the same issue with Eclipse Galileo for Java and Report Developers which was the actual installation that included BIRT.

I have also tried this using jre and jdk 1.5.

I am finding Birt to be extremely buggy and unusable. Doesn't anybody know the solution to this? Thanks.

Greg,

When you downloaded the Galileo for Java and Report Developers which one
did you use SR1 or SR2? SR2 was released late feb. I have downloaded
all version of Galileo and can not reproduce your error. What os are
you running?

So, I downloaded the SP2 version on my windows XP system, and I had the same issue.

So, I logged into a virtual server I have access to and downloaded eclipse there and it works.

My computer has a lot of junk on it so may there is some conflict. I also have a lot of plugins installed so maybe there is a conflict there. I am surprised nobody else ran into this issue though. I am wondering if it has something to do with the Tomcat server I am running.

Anyway, at least I got it working.

Thanks for your help Jason...
