How to test Birt reports [message #520609] Sat, 13 March 2010 02:04 Go to next message

I am a test engineer and doing the system tests for the Birt reports. We use Birt for our application.

I managed to create them in an automated way by calling the client services of the application, which then produces an URL by which the report can be downloaded.

I download it automated as an Excel XML file. Fortunately it is no binary format.

Now I can validate it. But the Excel XML file is not hierarchically structured as the report data. Its simply flat rows. So it is a bit diffuclt to grab the right value with XPATH for automated validation.

How would you systemtest Birt reports in an automated way (generation and validation)? Or do you know if and how Birt itself does such kind of tests and where I can look for them?
