pdt...

You can try http://download.eclipse.org/dsdp/tm/downloads/ and use RSE.

I personally use JCraft's SFTP plugin and create local projects.

I use the aptana plugin for this, it has a builtin ftp client and also a
very nice syncronize feature so it's quite easy to work locally with a
project and then just sync changes with your online site. In software
updates add a new remote site

Name: Aptana
URL: http://update.aptana.com/install/3.2/

There are several plugins in the Aptana Web development tools, I am not
sure in which the ftp is as I have them all installed. I am quite new to
eclipse as well but the aptana plugins are a nice collection.

You may like to look at their site www.aptana.com as well

Thanks James for the link to RSE - very usefull.

I wonder what happened to the "FTP & WebDAV support" which has been part
of eclipse platform build, but has now been removed. I could not find
anything in the changelogs.

I also tried aptana.. very huge thing

JCraft's SFTP plugin (http://www.jcraft.com/eclipse-sftp/) is based on
FTP and WebDAV support.

The main difference that I see (in respect to this thread) is that RSE
lets you interact and edit files 'in place' on a Remote file system.
Where JCraft's, FTP and WebDAV make you edit a local copy and
synchronize the file with a remote file store.

Too bad SFTP plugin doesn't (like FTP and WebDAV before) allow you put any
filters or such a things to exporting list. If there's images or such on a
server, the plugin want's to synchronize them also. It's does not sound
like a big deal but after all, it starts to irritate me.

3.3 Europa is what I am running, so I guess so. However, I have just
noticed problems after an Aptana and PDT update, syncing of my site no
hangs and times out after a while. I don't know if it's because of the
updates, It might be something on my side as well. It has worked fine
until now though.

Well after some fiddling I replaced my pure-ftpd server in favor of
proftpd and now the Aptana ftp syncing works beautifully. It's a very
handy solution, I work locally and after testing and debugging I just sync
with the online site.

What is done with file you delete locally? Will it be removed on the
server at the next synchronization?

That is what I'm looking for. I always used the ftp/webdav feature for
remote ftp synchronization. But with Europe 3.3 I cannot get this
feature working properly. I even tried the 3.3M6 version of the ftp/webdav.

regards,
Johnny

I have the same Problem. I can't install the sftp PlugIn and I get the
same error.
What do you mean with "enable" the ftp/webdav PlugIn? And how did you
install the ftp/webdav PlugIn?

I'm working on a Mac...

Thanks and greetings,
