I know this is an old topic but after reading about 100 discussion pages I still don't have any idea of what to do.

Here is the problem. I just installed Galileo and all attempts at updates produce "No software found at ...". From the discussions I take it this is some sort of proxy problem but I'm not using a proxy and when I try the same thing with my Ganymede installation it works as expected.

Surely this problem has been solved and/or fixed. Can someone point me to a solution?

Thanks,

Does your update site setting contain the following:
Galileo http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo Enabled
The Eclipse Project Updates
http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/3.5 Enabled

Window, Preferences, Install/Update, Available Software Sites

Regards,
Jeroen.

Jeroen,
Thanks for the reply. The answer to your question is 'yes'. Both of those URL are in the Available Sites List. Selecting any of the URLs from the available sites list results in the error message (red circle with white 'X') "No repository found at ....

It appears that Eclipse cannot access the net. I suspect some sort of setup is required for Galileo that was not required for earlier versions but I have no idea what is missing.

Any ideas?

If you go to Preferences > Install/Update > Available Software Sites,
select the Galileo site, and hit the Test Connection button, what is the
result?

Hope this helps,
Eric

Eric,
Thanks for the reply. In answer to your question, selecting http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo from the 'work with' list produces the message: "No repository found at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo".

From the 'available software' panel. Selecting http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo and clicking the 'test' button produces a popup with the following error:

Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/site.xml.
Unable to read repository at http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/site.xml.
Network is down: connect

The last part of this message, "network is down", makes me thing some sort of configuration is required. But I'm not behind a proxy and older versions of Eclipse on the same machine do not display this behavior.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that maybe your workspace has proxy
settings that are invalid (because you're not actually behind a proxy).
Look in the Preferences (type "proxy" without quotes in the search field
of the Preferences dialog) and see if there is anything suspicious there.

Other than that I can only suggest getting a network sniffer to try to
figure out what is happening.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Same issue here. A new fresh install.
When trying to install software I get this:

Network connection problems encountered during search.
Unable to access "http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo".
Error parsing site stream. [The XML stream is not a valid default
"site.xml" file. The root tag is not site.]
The XML stream is not a valid default "site.xml" file. The root tag
is not site.
Error parsing site stream. [The XML stream is not a valid default
"site.xml" file. The root tag is not site.]
The XML stream is not a valid default "site.xml" file. The root tag

Both Sites are available under :
Window => Preferences => Install/Updates => Software Update Sites.

Hitting the url with browser gives 404.

http://download.eclipse.org/releases/galileo/site.xml

Hope someone will look into it or provide help.

I am having the exact same problem as mansour.alakeel.gmail.com. I use Eclipse 3.5.1-r1 on Gentoo. I cannot tell when the problem started - I have only been trying to access the site in question since around 2011-02-10.

There is nothing suspicious about my proxy settings - I have not changed them since the installation of Eclipse, and no proxy is enabled.
