Using 'b3' in texts (articles and titles) [message #510371] Wed, 27 January 2010 06:24 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hi all,

I have two questions:

1) Is there any concept of using the 'b3' name in documents?

A typical problem is whether to always use lower case 'b' or not. What happens if I want to start a sentence with 'b3' like in following examples

a) a sentence in an article

b3 may replace PDE build in future.

or

B3 may replace PDE build in future.

b) a label in a list of categories

....
CVS
Eclipse Modeling Framework
Ecore Tools
b3
Java
....

or

....
CVS
Eclipse Modeling Framework
Ecore Tools
B3
Java
....

2) Is there any official label for what 'b3' stands for?

I mean something like EMF = Eclipse Modeling Framework, b3 = ???

Using 'b3' in category lists in not self-explanatory without a label.

My vote is in favor of using lower case 'b3' always. I.e. even at the beginning of sentences. The fact that it's
unconventional is a good thing in that it gets peoples attention.

I think, b3 should have a self-explanatory label, such as "b3 Build
Framework". b3 does not say much to a novice.

I think 'always use lower case' is a good rule.
When writing, it is most of the time not hard to avoid having b3 at the
start of a sentence. Simply use something more specific like:
- The b3 project
- A b3 engine
- The b3 DSL/language
- The b3 builder

I thought b3 stands for "breaking free" like this:

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
Youre so self satisfied I don't need you
Ive got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free

Where "You" is meant to be the "manual build" Smile
