All,
We are trying to create a prototype with Eclipse and GMF for a new graphical editor tool at our firm. I was wondering if there is a list of commercial users of GMF in the industry. This will definitely help the case to use GMF technology for our new tool.
Please let me know if anybody has a list like this.

Thanks in advance,
P V

Hi,

More important is the support given on the newsgroup than any commercial
use of GMF. GMF has few answers to questions here, contrasts strongly
with newsgroups for EMF to RCP for example. The tutorials are not kept
up to date with the latest version of Eclipse as is evident from the
BPMN tutorial.

Not complaining, just a fact, you have to invest a lot more time to
learn the platform as it is complex and a lot more experimentation has
to be done because it is hard to get advice on approach beyond what the
tutorials cover. Hoping to eventually get to the point where I can
answer a few questions myself.

I would say it depends on needs Rolling Eyes
If the goal is to recreate another UML graphical editor then there is no real need to directly use GMF because already plenty of solutions exist.
If the goal is to have an out of box solution then again this is not the right solution.

If you have a minimum of 9 to 12 months project in which we need to customize graphically Eclipse, DSL, BPMN, Data Modeling, SOA, Webservices, Data centers etc... then it is a good solution.

The learning curve to be really efficient is between 3 to 9 months depending on Eclipse previous experience. I would not recommend to code immediately because the comprehension of the framework is essential for project success.
