How to log UI freezes [message #500971] Mon, 30 November 2009 09:36

Is there a way to generate a signal of some sort when an Eclipse based product has a UI Freeze?

By UI freeze I mean that the UI thread has not responded to the event queue in over 5 seconds -- on Windows this results in the menu bar going white, and the task manager reporting that the process is not responding.

I'd like to build a tool (or maybe one already exists), that takes a stack trace whenever we hit a UI freeze, so that we can start opening defects and get some of these long running operations off of the UI thread.
