Hi
i a failing in binding different column names to the categories xseries in
chart. (both for pie and bar chart).

In my report i have a parameter which is a column name,
i get different csv files with different column name according to it,so
for example:
1)
param["source"].value = 'search.field.what'

in csv file i have
search.fields.what,amount,percentage
0, 1, 0.005
1, 6795, 32.486
2, 7792, 37.252

2)
param["source"].value = 'search.field.city'

in csv file i have
search.field.city,amount,percentage
0, 1, 0.005
1, 6795, 32.486
2, 7792, 37.252


my chart (pie in this case) should show the
yseries = percentage
xseries = search.field.city or search.field.city according to param etc...
but when trying bind column name to chart i fail (tried putting in the x
series category the expression row[params["source"].value])

can i do it via script(or java) but from the rptdesign file ? if yes how?

please help !!!

Try the attached. I modified your example to add two datasets and used
some script to change the dataset the chart uses based on the parameter.

The reoprt i added was only to demonstrate the problem.
In the real report i have behind a webservice which together with other
parameters is creating on the fly a new csv file with new data for the
specific search field (my source field).
So basically this field can have one of many values of fields (un limited)
defined as search field in our search engine.

What i did for the meantime is changing the webservice to return always the
same name for the column (with relevant data) and i am using the parameter
name to set the categories title.
In the long run this is not a good solution for me i would rather have a way
where i donot have to alter the webservcie and use its regular report output
(csv) as input to my Birt reoprt.

I saw there are ways of setting the yAxis using script in beforeFactory()
and beforeGeneration() , isn't there a way to set the binding column and
the xAxis categories series as well vi the script?

This example was for ChartType equals ChartWithoutAxes. After a little bit of search and hands on work this is the code for the case of ChartWithAxes ChartType.
