Installation of Eclipse on Windows XP [message #4244] Tue, 18 January 2005 04:15 Go to next message

Hi!

I've got a very basic question concerning the installation of eclipse on
Windows XP Systems for teaching purposes. Obviousely the users (i.e.
students) shall not be able to write or modify the installation
directories but shall use worspaces in their own home-dirs.

The problem I have is: I can't figure out a way of using eclipse without
giving the users write access to the installation dirs, even if the
workspace is somwhere else eclipse seems to write logfiles and so forth in
it's installation directory.

Does there exist any poperty to set or any other workaround for this
problem, somehow I don't find anything on this subject in the manuals (I
shure it is there somewhere, but I don't find it).

Thanks for any help,

Alex

This should work using 3.0 or later (see
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=33976). Please file a bug
report if this isn't working for you.

Thanks for your fast response.

I'm using 3.1M3 in School and it isn't working out of the box (neither it
works for any of my students).
Since I'm at home now I will at it more closely this afternoon....
