uml metamodel diagrams [message #476811] |

Hi,
I am currently exploring the UML.ecore model which represents the UML
metamodel, right? From reading the UML Specs the UML package
(namespace?) is constructed using a package merging mechanism? I
understand that it makes no sense to create a diagram for this merged
uml package as it would simply be overwhelmingly large. However if the
original package structures (from the InfrastructureLibrary?) would
exist, we could create diagrams that display parts of the
metamodel to play around with (do not save your changes!!! :-D )
Having the ecore tree view is already great, but diagrams would be
fantastic. This would definitely help people, wouldn't it?
Has there been any effort to get real interactive uml metamodel
diagrams to be displayed by either the UML2Tools Editor or the Ecore
Diagram editor?
Anyone else interested in having such a thing?
Thanks,
Felix

hi,
the UML2 project contains .uml and .emx versions of the original
metamodel. You find them in CVS:
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/org.eclipse.mdt/org .eclipse.uml2/plugins/org.eclipse.uml2.uml/model/?root=Model ing_Project
Cheers,
Marco

Felix,
I've just started playing the Ecore Tools component of EMFT and it could
be used directly to create a class diagram for UML.ecore itself. It
should be possible to create diagrams/views of subsets of different
aspects of the model (just as for the huge XSD model I have many
different Rose diagrams). I'm hoping to have enough time this release
to begin replacing EMF's use of Rose diagrams in favor of Ecore Tools'
diagrams since obviously Rose is not a proper open source dependency
because it represents a barrier to entry...
I think it would also be interesting and nice to have UML2 Tools
diagrams for the *.uml models...
