I would like to create a series of diargams using a single model file. Yet
all of the examples I have looked seem to imply that there is always a
one-to-one correspondance between diagram and model. This does not seem
correct to me can any one guide me in the right direction for this?

Hello Jeff,

You are correct, the situation has to be changed - it should be possible
to edit many diagram over the single domain model.
There are bugzilla #199731 'Structure diagrams synchronization' and #199735
'Diagram relations'. The progress in this ares will be reflected in these
requests.
