Eclipse Help Server - Remote Port [message #471597] Wed, 30 January 2008 09:24 Go to next message
Eclipse UserFriend
Hello,

I posted the same message in "eclipse.platform". Maybe this is the better
news group.

is it possible to switch the remote port of the help server to a "local"
port.
If found Start Eclipse with "-vmargs -Dserver_host=<host>"

on
http://help.eclipse.org/help33/index.jsp?topic=/org.eclipse. platform.doc.isv/guide/ua_help_setup_preferences.htm

I added the vmargs to the eclipse.ini -vmargs
-Xms40m
-Xmx1024m
-Dserver_host=127.0.0.1

but the port is still visible from remote.

Best Regards
Wolfgang

Are you running Eclipse and launching the help system from there or are
you running an infocenter? What version of Eclipse are you running? Also
what OS are you running on?

Now I'm seeing this also. I'm not sure if this is different from how
thing worked in Eclipse 3.2 - I don't remember being able to read help
from a remote machine unless in infocenter mode and possibly also in
standalone mode. Have you noticed a difference since Eclipse 3.2.

Hello,

I tried with Eclipse 3.3 and Eclipse 3.4 with the same results. The help
port is still visible from remote.

Best regards
