Hi,

What do the Eclipse UA committers think about having the community
members participating in Eclipse Bug Day?

At a minimum, is there some triaging work that you could use some
community help in?

Eclipse Bug Day: http://wiki.eclipse.org/BugDay

The Bug Day FAQ (http://wiki.eclipse.org/BugDayFAQ) says that even Users
('non-developers') can participate in Eclipse Bug Day:
Q: What skills do I need to participate in Eclipse bug day?
A: There's plenty of opportunity to participate if you're not a
developer! There are Eclipse bugs out there that need help with triage
(see the question below) or if you're good with artwork, there's bugs
out there that need help with art!

Q: How do I triage bugs?
A: Programming skills might help you fix particular bugs, but triaging
most bugs will not require any programming knowledge. Bug triaging is a
great way for people who do not know anything about programming to
return something to the Eclipse community. To get started with triaging
a bug, simply go to the Eclipse bug day page: (1) find the current bug
day, (2) find a component your interested in triaging and click the
triage link, (3) go through the bugs and see if there is anything
missing in a bug or the bug may be out of date.

One day isn't going to put much of a dent in the UA bugs, including
enhancement requests we have about 700 open bugs at the moment. I've
been using the month of July which is between the release of Eclipse 3.3
and the start of Eclipse 3.4 work to review, with help from Adam Archer
the open bugs. So far only the [Help] and [Browser] bugs have been
reviewed. We have identified and closed a number of bugs which cannot be
reproduced, no longer are applicable or are duplicates. The remaining
bugs have been prioritized, with a 3.4 target milestone being added to
the top candidates. 29 UA bugs have been fixed so far for Eclipse 3.4
(this includes 11 bugs fixed in both 3.3.1 and 3.4).

The most useful way a member of the community can help is to review all
of the bugs which they have filed, close out any which have already been
fixed or are enhancements you no longer care about. Add a new comment to
those bugs which do not already have a target milestone which you
consider to be important so that it will get my attention. In general
the more concisely you can state your case the better the chance that
your bug will get the 3.4 milestone attached. The other useful way would
be to submit patches on documentation that is inaccurate or incomplete.

As for bug day I will be on vacation tomorrow but that does not mean
that the bugs will get neglected.

It doesn't hurt to put your name and links to bugs here:

Who knows what will happen.

Hey, thanks Chris and Chris (zx) for responding!

I didn't know Bug Day existed until this Monday, so was a little late in
getting bandwidth lined up for this month. I did forward the info to
some folks and saw activity in the bugs, which is cool.

zx, would I just add myself to the "Particpants" table if I do something
as Chris G. suggests?

And I'm likely not going to finish until Monday--do you think its OK if
I add myself to the BugDay Wiki page? :-)
