How do you good people decide which to use?

Is the rule whenever you are editing data of any kind go with an editor?
Is it that you will use an editor only when there is a
open-edit-think-edit-save use case?

There seem to be several areas where one would like to have the behavior
of an editor yest a view would be a better fit due to usability/UI design.
